Applied Digital Communications 11 is a full-year self-directed computer course in which students evaluate software and technology, develop information and communication technology (ICT) literacy and skills as they work together and solve problems and communicate with one another, and expand their employability by creating and using multimedia files for distribution and presentation. Focus on Office 365 and Google Applications will be emphasized but other software such as Adobe Photoshop and Movie Maker will also be used.
Applied Digital Communications 12 and Digital Media Development 12 continue on the path of Applied Digital Communications 11 but focuses more in media development. Students introduced to web design using HTML/CSS, Dreamweaver and other web 2.0 tools. Other tools for 2-D / 3-D modeling and audio / video editing software may also be used. Students in these courses will propose a teacher-approved capstone project.

Students in Digital Communications 12 may also propose an alternate learning plan to the teacher. Approval from teacher is required.
Student Materials: Students will bring the following to class:
- USB Flash Drive
- Headphone or earbud (2.5 mm jack)
Assignments: Students are provided a sufficient amount of class time to complete their assignments. This allows the teacher to give instant and on-going feedback; the teacher expects nothing less than quality end-products.
Late assignments will be counted as missing (i.e. zero) until they are marked, usually at a much later time. Students may request an extension before the deadline, and it is only granted on an individual basis under special circumstances.
Classroom Rules: Students are responsible for taking full advantage of their learning opportunities. The teacher’s responsibility is to provide such opportunities, to fairly evaluate students, and to establish a safe learning environment by supporting these five classroom rules:
- Come to class on time.
- Be prepared to learn.
- Follow instructions the first time given.
- Respect others and their belongings.
- Keep the classroom clean.
Washroom privileges are allowed at the teacher’s discretion but not to be abused. NEVER bring food, drinks, or cell phones into the classroom, as they will be confiscated on sight and returned at the end of the day or next day.
Evaluation: Students will be evaluated on assignments, projects and tests. Term marks will be independently reported and is calculated as follows:
- In-Class Assignments (50%)
- Capstone Projects (50%)
Term marks are equally weighted, meaning the final mark is the average of the term marks (approximately 33% each). Letter grades are based on the student’s ability to meet the learning outcomes of the course, whereas work habits are reported as excellent (E), good (G), satisfactory (S) or needing improvement (N).
